Starting yet another blog

Thursday, May 2nd 2024

It'd make sense to start with an introduction, but i'm not feeling like writing one, soo.... hi?

In case you stumbled upon this site outside of fedi, then it's easiest to check out my profile on the fediverse where there's a bit more general info!

There already was a blog that i used for a total of three articles before this, but a fresh start seemed like the obvious move -- lots has changed in the past couple of years. let's get started!

The Goal

Come up and write at least one article per week. Optionally, have them be reasonably interesting to a tiny little audience.

Currently, it seems like that audience might be interested in computer technology and... perhaps trains? Who knows what my next hyperfixation could be!

To make it even more clear: Recurring topics will include technology, (rail) travel, city planning and maybe photography.

Sounds doable, doesn't it? Well, I thought the same! ... three years ago. Here goes attempt number two, then.

The Technology and Philosophy behind this website

It's literally just static HTML+CSS, hosted on some VPS running nginx, hand-written in neovim. Nothing fancy. I made some more complicated web apps before and don't need any more of those.

Have it be simple and light-weight with absolutely no JS, tracking, cookie popups, advertising or any other crap nobody asks for*. I'd like to think of it as my personal attempt of not continuing the enshittening of the open web.

This has the unfortunate side-effect of comments not being possible on this site. In case you would like to add your opinion to the mix, please do so under the relevant Fedi posts! Every new blog entry will be announced there. I'd love to hear from you!

* to be fair, nobody asked for this blog either.
